Managing a Portfolio of Projects

This is a current research project sponsored by the Construction Industry Institute with the objective of developing tools and techniques to improve the performance of construction projects that are grouped in portfolios. The academic team consists of Northeastern University, Georgia Tech, and University of Florida.

Risk analysis

  • Project cost and schedule risk analysis, including risk identification, assessment, and mitigation using probabilistic methods.
    * Has conducted several projects for the U.S. Dept. of Transportation.
    * Modeling of uncertainty in project duration and costs.
    * Has authored/co-authored several reports for conducting risk analysis in major transit projects.

Owners' Risk Reduction Techniques (CMAA Project)

Risk Assessment for Transit Projects

Simulation

Simulation of construction processes, especially heavy equipment operations, Monte Carlo simulation of construction costs, analysis of historical cost and schedule data.
