REFERENCES
Employers often request references
from students and utilize them to make hiring decisions. A reference
is from a person you select, who can comment on your personal,
academic or professional background and make a recommendation
as to your future employment. References can be a person you know
on a personal, academic or professional basis.
To prepare for interviewing you must
select 3-4 individuals who will give you valuable references.
You can select from a variety of people including: high school
teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, past and present employers,
professors, neighbors, and professionals. References should not
be friends or relatives.
Before you use them as references,
you must contact the individuals and make sure they are willing
to give you a recommendation. Once they give you permission to
use their name, you must get the following information: full name,
personal address or work address, and telephone number where they
can be reached during the day. Most employers will verify your
references via a phone call. Your references might be asked to
comment on your attitude, work habits, and or dates of employment.
Please collect the information below for 3 - 4 references that
you plan to use when applying for co-op positions. References
should be typed on a piece of paper separate from your resume.
