Conference Overview
The 2011 Region 1 Conference theme was "Improving Today to Power Tomorrow". Our conference committee worked hard to bring professionals and experts from around the Northeast region to discuss the latest and up and coming trends in industrial engineering. from energy efficiency to healthcare. Northeastern University opened the welcoming ceremony to introduce Marc Resnick who spoke to the audience about different ways to get involved with professional societies, particularly IIE. After the welcome, attendees broke out into three different speak tracks: Healthcare, Career Management, and Industry.
Healthcare/Human Factors Track
Alice Lee and Kimberly Eng from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center gave a presentation entitled "Lean Deployment in Healthcare Environment". One of our own Northeastern professors, James Benneyan, spoke about the state of the healthcare industry in relation to industrial engineering. Dr. Ronald Shapiro, a consultant on human factors, gave an interactive presentation, "Games to Explain Human Factors: Come, Participate, Learn and Have Fun!"
Career Management Track
Paul Robert Siebenecher from the South Jersey Delaware Valley chapter gave a two hour presentation entitled, "Career Quest" where he gave job hunting tips and offered to critique students’ resumes. Our region's vice president, Kevin Drevik lectured students on "Your First Job: Benefits & Finances".
Industry Track
Don Jenkins from EnerNOC, Energy Network Operations Center, gave a presentation about "EnerNOC: Building Tomorrow's SMART Grid Today!" Robert Nordstrom from Bose spoke about "Creating and Sustaining a Lean Culture: The Bose Corporation Lean Journey". Jennifer Kennedy of United Parcel Service, gave a presentation entitled "Managing Change and Emerging Technologies at UPS" with several of her colleagues.
