NU-SHPE’s GPA (Grade Point Average) Challenge is a new addition to our Academic Development Program. The tracking system measures our engagement of members through the Tutoring Program, Shadow Program and Yearly Events such as “Guaranteed 4.0”. The essence of the GPA tracking system is to keep our focus on improving the average GPA of our chapter.
Besides the obvious benefits of an improved GPA, SHPE Org is offering chapters with the top GPA improvements reduced admission to future Conferences.
In addition, the student with the top GPA improvement at the end of each semester will receive a prize!
If you are interested in participating please let one of the E-Board members know during the next General Body Meeting. Please know that our advisor, Mr. Harris, will keep student’s GPA confidential unless you authorize permission.
Our current goal is to have a combined chapter GPA of 3.0+
| The Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (AHETEMS) Foundation.(pronounced a-teams) is an independent 501(c)(3) working exclusively to develop educational enrichment and academic outreach initiatives, for Latinos/as, that extend throughout the pre-college to PhD pathway. NU-SHPE’s Shadow Program is another recent addition. The Shadow Program serves two purposes:
- To infuse the chapter with future student leaders who are prepared to take on the responsibilities of the E-Board, and
- To establish a mentorship opportunity for incoming students
Students are allowed to select their E-Board mentor that they would like to shadow. Any student member in the Shadow Program will have the opportunity to gain leadership experience by working alongside the E-Board on challenging projects throughout the year. The students are encouraged to voice their opinions and use their creative powers. Additionally, the E-Board will offer guidance to the students on any facet of college life – academic or social.
The SHPE Jr. program encourages high school students to succeed by providing scholarships, mentors, tutors, and other resources to promote the academic areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). SHPE Jr. targets the success of pre-college students through the following:

- Convey a positive attitude towards academic excellence
- Encourage and support parental commitment of their children’s education
- Increase awareness about engineering and science careers
- Provide support throughout the college application process
- Increase college access of Latino/a students
- Increase college entrance of Latino/a students
- Increase cultural awareness of Latino/a contributions to STEM
