Who should join SWE Northeastern and how do I become a member?

We hope you will. Anyone who supports women in engineering is welcome. Being a women or even an engineer is not necessary. If you want to meet more people, get professional connections, learn more about the wonderful city we live in, get some valuable leadership skills or even just get some help studying for your next physics test, this club is the best place to be.

To become a member you can just show up to one of the SWE Northeastern’s general meetings. Meetings are always posted on the SWE Calendar and reminders are e-mailed to all addresses on the mailing list. We are always looking for new faces! See the How to Join SWE section of our website for more details

What does SWE Northeastern do?

A little bit of everything. From professional to school to social activities we have it all covered. And if we don't currently have something you want to do, just suggest it. Here are a few things we have done in the past:

·         Freshman Scavenger Hunt

·         Movie Night

·         Attend the SWE National Conference

·         Volunteer at the Museum of Science

·         Sponsor a speaker panel to help freshmen pick their Engineering Major

·         Go to SWE Boston meetings - including SWE-fest, annual networking night for local SWE student chapters

·         Company tours

·         and much more!

Where and when does SWE Northeastern meet?

Check the SWE calendar for specific dates & locations.  Usually, we meet at 6:30pm in our office (300 Snell Engineering) or 206 Egan.  Locations are posted on the calendar & reminders sent to the SWE mail list....  so it's a good idea to get on the SWE mailing list.  (This is easy, just visit our mailman page or contact our webmaster.)

Why do we have SWE?

SWE was established to have fun and promote women in engineering! This organization was founded from the following mission and objectives.

The SWE objectives:

·         To inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the public in general of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them.

·         To assist women engineers in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement.

·         To serve as a center of information on women in engineering.

·         To encourage women engineers to attain high levels of educational and professional achievement.

And the SWE Mission:

“The Society of Women Engineers stimulates women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expands the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in the quality of life, and       demonstrates the value of diversity.”
