Research and Technology Transfer Innovation and Leadership

In graduate education and research, our faculty and students are hard at work on discovery, innovation and technology transfer, on the exciting 21st century challenges in Security, Energy, the Environment, and Human Health, Rehabilitation and Well-Being. The College’s ALERT Research Center is one of seven National Centers of Excellence of the Department of Homeland Security, working on the detection and mitigation of explosive threats. Our National Science Foundation (NSF) Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing is developing the techniques that will realize the benefits of nanotechnology in all of the above 21st Century Challenges. The Gordon Center for Sub-Surface Sensing and Imaging Systems is a NSF Engineering Research Center developing technology to see, probe and measure below the surface of water, earth and skin; these technologies will enable greater understanding of ocean ecology, successful detection of underground resources and hazards, and early intervention and treatment of medical conditions. These interdisciplinary centers augment our leading research in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering.
