Welcome to COE WebMail!

Our WebMail is IMAP-based, so you can create folders to sort and save your mail. It also has an address book feature, and it is supported by a secure (SSL-enabled) web server.

Your folders are created in your home directory on the COE Solaris system, in a subdirectory of your choice (the default is "mail"). You can see the same folders using Netscape Mail, Outlook Express, or other popular mail clients if you set them up to use IMAP instead of POP3. Set "imap.coe.neu.edu" as the name of your IMAP server. Our IMAP server supports SSL.

Your WebMail address book Is stored in a database on the server. You will see a small icon of a book next to email addresses in your messages; click this icon to add the address to your address book.

Once you are logged in to WebMail, click the "Options" icon at the top of the screen to set your personal preferences. You can set the default language, define filters to sort your mail into folders and delete spam, empty your trash automatically, bleep out profanity, and many other useful things.

For your protection, all mail coming in to the COE system is scanned for viruses before being delivered to your inbox. You will be notified of any messages you received that could not be repaired.

Folders, spam control, an address book, and a secure server are features that many webmail users have been requesting. The Engineering Computer Center is pleased to make this new WebMail available. We hope you enjoy it!
