Using COE Course Directories on Unix and Windows
Course Directories are networked disk locations (directories) on the COE system. They are used for electronic submission of assignments. At the request of the instructor, any Engineering class can have Course Directories set up by the Computer Center staff. Each student can see only his/her own Course Directory; the instructor (plus any designated graders) can see the Course Directories of all students in their class, but cannot see the student's other files.
Using Course Directories through FTP or Unix login:
Students: In your home directory (the directory you are in when you log in), you will see a subdirectory called "Courses". Inside your Courses subdirectory, there will be an entry for each class you are taking this term that is using Course Directories. These entries are actually symbolic links pointing to another file system, so they don't work on Windows machines! Use these links to submit assignments through FTP or from a login session on a COE Unix workstation.

Graders: In the directory /Depts/Courses, you will see a list of all classes and sections that are using Course Directories this semester. You will have permissions to access the classes you are teaching or grading.
Inside the Course Directory for your class, you will see a Class List file and a subdirectory labelled with the COE username of each student in your class who has an active COE account. Check the Class List to see if any of your students have not obtained accounts; registered students who don't have accounts should go to the COE Computer Center web site to request them.
Using Course Directories on COE Windows machines:
Students: A drive letter has been mapped for each class you are taking this semester that is using Course Directories. Go to Start ... My Computer to see your Network Drives. They will be empty until you put something in them.
Note: the entries in the Course subdirectory of your home directory (Z drive) do NOT work under Windows!
Graders: A Windows share has been set up for the "graders-eye view" of your students' Course Directories, but you will need to map it to a drive letter by hand. This can only be done on machines on COEnet ports or on faculty office network ports in Snell Engineering building.
Go to Start ... My Computer, pull down the Tools menu, and select Map Network Drive. Choose any available drive letter. For Folder, enter \\129.10.32.89\CETE443-01 (substitute your course and section number). If you are not on a COEwin computer, click on Connect using a Different Username. Enter your COE username and password.
If you need help, please ask the Computer Center staff for assistance. Click here for screenshots for graders.
