How to Configure Netscape 7.1 Mail to work with SMTP
Authentication.
Please
Follow the steps below:
- First
open up Netscape Mail and Newsgroups from the Windows Start menu. We
assume you have already configured Netscape to read your mail (this
document is about sending mail).
- Choose:
Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings from
the Edit menu.

- This
will open the window below.

- Click
on Server Settings and configure
the window to look like the one below.

IMPORTANT (no screenshot for this): click on Advanced...
and for "IMAP Server directory", put mail/.
Uncheck the boxes about subscribed folders and sub-folders,
then click OK.
Now click
on Outgoing Server (SMTP) from
the left hand navigation bar.
- Choose
the Radio Button marked Always
in the section labeled Use secure
connection (SSL) on the lower right of the page.
- And in
the Port Field type: 587
- Before
you hit ok check to make sure your window looks like the one below, where joetest is
your username on the COE system.

- Check
to be sure there is only one outgoing mail server listed by clicking on
the Advanced
button.
- You
see the screen below pop up. If there are any others listed remove them or
make sure smtp.coe.neu.edu is selected by default by clicking on the Set Default button.

- That's
it - you're done! Now you can send email using your COE account even if
you are off-campus.
