Graduate
School of Engineering New Student Orientation
Date: TBA
GSE Orientation is held each Fall to give new students important
information regarding their graduate studies, information about
campus life and living in Boston, and to meet their advisors to
plan their course of study. After orientation and individual departmental
meetings, students can then register for classes.
Attendance at this orientation is mandatory for full-time students
and recommended for part-time students.
Registration for the orientation session begins at 8:30 a.m.
Students should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. The presentation
will begin at 9:00 a.m.
During the orientation students will be introduced to the department
chairpersons, program directors, and faculty, along with the staff
of the Graduate School of Engineering. Students will be given
important information that they will find useful as they begin
their graduate studies. At the conclusion of the information session,
students will be organized into groups by department and program
and will then (or later by appointment) meet with their program
advisor to plan his/her program of study.
After the advisor approves student's course selections,
students may register through myNEU
student portal. The
course schedules are posted on the GSE
web site for easy viewing. More course selections, from other
Colleges within the University, are posted on the Registrar's
website. Students must register for classes via the myNEU portal.
For a campus-wide course schedule, academic calendar and other
student services please visit the Registrar's
web site.
International Students who have not received an
assistantship are required to attend the ISSI orientation. Students
will receive information regarding these activities from the International
Student and Scholar Institute. Please visit their web site for
further information: http://www.northeastern.edu/issi/orientation/events.html
The students who have been awarded Teaching
or Research Graduate Assistantship will be notified
of the date that they must report to their engineering department/program.
Students with a Graduate Teaching Assistantship
award are required to attend the University-wide Teaching Assistants
Orientation as instructed. International
students with Graduate Teaching Assistantship award are required
to attend the International Teaching Assistant Orientation
Program as instructed. These orientation
sessions are sponsored by ELC and the program details please view
http://www.cps.neu.edu/elc/international_ta.php
Failure to report to the department on time and to attend all
events for which students qualify or are required to attend, will
jeopardize the student's Teaching or Research Graduate Assistantship
appointment.
Please check the university divisions listed below for further
information as you prepare for your study at Northeastern University.
The Graduate School of Engineering is prepared to assist you
in your transition to graduate school. Please do not hesitate
to contact our office for any help you may need.
We look forward to meeting you in September.
