People's Choice Award in GWISE's 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition (2019)

Theresa Fuller

The 3MT is an academic competition that challenges graduate students to describe their research within three minutes, with one static slide. At Northeastern University, it was hosted by the Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (GWISE). The competition awarded People's Choice Award to Theresa Fuller, a second year Master's student, who presented her work, "Geographic Cohorting in the Hospital". Outstanding Research Awards in Interdisciplinary Topics, Centers, and Institutes for RISE (2019)

Yang Yang and Qifan Zhai 

As the largest event of its kind, more than 400 solution-focused posters were presented in Northeastern's 2019 RISE event. One of this year's Outstanding Research Awards went to Qifan Zhai, a master student majoring in Operations Research. The winning poster was titled "Characterization of Increases in Infection Rates". The research aims to explore the feasibility of two signal processing methods, Fourier and wavelet decomposition, in identifying patterns for prospective Surgical Site Infection prediction and surveillance.

College of Engineering 2nd place graduate award winner for RISE (2019)

Basma Bargal

Every year, Northeastern University hosts a Research, Innovation and Scholarship Expo (RISE). Over 100 esteemed judges from a host of industries come together to measure the ingenuity of Northeastern research and determine the recipients of the prestigious RISE Awards. One of this year's College of Engineering awards went to Basma Bargal, a PhD student at HSyE. The winning poster was titled "Modeling Caregiver Burnout and Resiliency to Optimize Prevention and Mitigation Intervention". The ultimate aim of better understanding burnout transitions is to reduce medical errors resulting from clinician burnout. To do so, the models help identify optimal times to intervene, and to predict long term effects of interventions.

Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute Research Associate Annie Shutt wins the Best Poster Award at the 2018 Healthcare Process Improvement Conference in Atlanta (February 24, 2018)

This project is part of the Engineering High Reliability Learning Lab, an AHRQ funded grant promoting collaboration between the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and HSyE aiming to create robust processes that ensure successful outcomes for all patients. This poster highlighted our work done to improve the safety and efficacy of opioid prescribing at the Phyllis Jen Center for Primary Care, a clinic within Brigham and Women's Hospital.
