Workshop at a Glance
This workshop provides an exciting and valuable forum for exchanging ideas in the important emerging area of sensing, prognostics, quality, reliability and PHM (Prognostics and Health management) in the nanomanufacturing field. This NSF sponsored workshop brings together researchers from academia, industry, national labs, and government to examine the sensing, quality, and reliability issues encountered in scaling up lab-based nanoprocesses to high-volume high-rate nanomanufacturing. The workshop focuses on the following nanomanufacturing issues:
- Process yield and repeatability issues
- Quality and reliability issues
- Sensing and prognostics issues
- Planning and control issues
- Cost and scale up issues
The response to the call for workshop participants has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. The feedback that we have received from the IE community indicates that the workshop is a very timely and important event. The spectrum of the expertise of the participants include industrial engineering, systems science, quality and reliability, sensing and prognostics, nanoscience, nanoengineering, and nanomanufacturing. The workshop is structured into general sessions and breakout groups. The general sessions are meant to provide the participants with background information they need when they begin deliberating to identify the important research issues during the breakout groups, and eventually write their final reports.
