New Engineering Academic Programs

It’s a new academic year and with that, the College of Engineering has several exciting new multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs available starting fall 2018 and spring 2019.

Degrees

  • BS, Electrical Engineering and Music – This combined major serves students who would like to explore their interest in music technology while earning the benefit of an accredited Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. It is a well-known fact that in this 21st century, music industry relies heavily on electronic technology in the production (e.g., musical instruments), storage (e.g., mp3 files), and distribution (as in streaming services) of music.
  • BS, Environmental Engineering and Health Sciences – The combined major reflects the respective departmental thrusts in environmental health and sustainable resource engineering to create awareness about the complex relationship between the environment and human health, prepare professionals in this growing area capable of providing engineering solutions to current and emerging topics related to environmental engineering and health sciences, and maintain healthy environmental systems by applying and developing techniques to reduce exposure to health hazards.
  • BS/JD, Mechanical Engineering and Law 3+3 – Northeastern University School of Law admits selected students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering to a 3+3 program that allows students to count their first year of law school toward their undergraduate degree. Students in the 3+3 Program begin their first-year law school courses during their fourth year of study and apply those credits toward both their bachelor’s and law degree.
  • BS/MS, Environmental Engineering – This PlusOne bachelor’s/master’s program combines either a Civil Engineering bachelor’s degree or an Environmental Engineering bachelor’s degree with an Environmental Engineering master’s degree. The Environmental Engineering MS program covers the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of environmental engineering and science, while also incorporating modern professional topics that intersect diverse engineering disciplines including energy, resource recovery, urban systems, industrial ecology, and product life cycles.
  • MS, Robotics – The program looks at this fundamentally interdisciplinary field from three connected angles: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the algorithms, sensors, control systems, and mechanisms used in robotics to help them stand out in the field and make transformative impact on society.

Minors

  • Healthcare Systems Operations Minor – This minor prepares students to apply industrial and systems engineering methods in healthcare applications. The minor will benefit students by highlighting the unique features of this industry and methods for addressing its unique challenges to engineer improvements to the design, operation, and management of healthcare systems.
  • Robotics Minor – Co‐housed in Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering is aimed at providing a coherent foundation in the principles and practice of robotics. Robotics, integration of sensing, computation, and actuation in the physical world, has an ever‐growing impact on modern technology, human health and manufacturing.

Since 2012, the College of Engineering has added 51 new academic programs to help students personalize their path and participate in lifelong learning. View all of our academic programs.
