Real-Time Urban Flood Forecasting

The Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India has funded a project entitled "Near-real-time flood forecasting system" which will develop new physically-based and data-driven models for coastal and urban flood forecasting and early warning, with a primary case study in the city of Mumbai, India. The project will be led by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), and co-led by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in India. Prof. Auroop Ganguly from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is a Co Principal Investigator of the project, along with a professor from the University of Maryland. The two US based professors currently have visiting faculty appointments with the Climate Change Inter-Disciplinary Program at IIT-B.
